Frequently Asked Questions
Getting started and pricing
What is Kyudo?
Kyudo is a connected packaging platform. One code on the pack gives brands product compliance, brand protection and a direct channel to their customers. The code can be a GS1 2D barcode, a TruePixel code or an unclonable NFC tag, and shoppers scan it with their phone camera, with no app to download.
Is Kyudo the same company as ProQure?
Yes. Kyudo was previously called ProQure. Both names refer to the same company and the same platform.
Who is Kyudo for?
Consumer brands that want to protect their products, engage customers and own their data; private brands that want to connect their whole home brand range; and print partners that want to offer connected packaging to the brands they print for.
What are Tag, Engage and Trace?
They are the three Kyudo packs. Tag is the compliant foundation: a GS1 code, a live product page and a Digital Product Passport for every SKU. Engage adds your customer channel: promotions, offers and first-party data you own. Trace adds item-level authentication: a unique code on every unit, Amazon Transparency and diversion alerts. You start with Tag and add Engage or Trace when you need them.
How much does Kyudo cost?
Kyudo has one simple per-SKU price. Pick the packs you need to see your price per SKU, and your first 60 days are free. See pricing
How do I get started?
Add your SKUs and every SKU gets its own GS1 code. Place the code on your artwork and print it with the pack, like any barcode. From then on, every scan opens your page, and you can update the content whenever you like. Get started
Do shoppers need to download an app?
No. Scanning the code or tapping the NFC tag opens the experience in the phone's browser.
Which types of packaging does it work on?
Pouches, bottles, jars, cans and labels. The code is printed with the pack, like any barcode.
GS1 2D barcodes and compliance
What is a GS1 Digital Link code?
It is a 2D barcode built on the GS1 standard. It works at the retail checkout like a normal barcode, and it opens your product information when a shopper scans it with a phone.
What is GS1 Sunrise 2027, and is Kyudo ready for it?
GS1 Sunrise 2027 is the industry move to retail checkouts that read 2D barcodes from 2027. Kyudo is ready for it: every SKU gets a GS1 code that is ready for that change. Product compliance
Can one code replace both the barcode and the marketing QR code?
Yes. One GS1 code does the job of the retail barcode and the marketing QR code, so there is one code on the pack instead of two.
Which regulations does Kyudo cover?
GS1 Sunrise 2027, the EU Digital Product Passport, EU wine labelling and the FDA's FSMA 204 traceability rule, among many others. The same code also carries recall notices and track and trace data, so new rules do not need a new label. Compliance
Can I change the product page after the pack is printed?
Yes. The code on the pack stays the same, and the content behind it can be updated at any time, without reprinting or repackaging.
How does Kyudo help in a product recall?
The code on the pack can carry recall notices, so you can reach the shoppers who scan it. Because codes are managed from one place, you can flag one batch instead of the whole line.
Digital Product Passport
What is a Digital Product Passport?
A Digital Product Passport (DPP) is a digital record of a product's information that EU rules require for a growing number of product categories. It is opened from a code on the product, so retailers, regulators and shoppers can read it.
How does Kyudo create and manage Digital Product Passports?
Every SKU on Tag, our base pack, gets a Digital Product Passport. You create, manage and update your DPPs and other regulatory product data from one place, and the code on the pack never has to change. Digital Product Passport
Can I manage product data for hundreds of SKUs?
Yes. Kyudo's blueprint modules take product data from multiple sources and generate an experience for every SKU, with market-specific content such as compliance and product information, from a single app structure. They are built for large ranges such as retailer own labels and global CPG brands.
Brand protection and authentication
What is TruePixel?
TruePixel is on-pack verification, integrated with HP SmartStream. A serialised symbol built from your own icons is printed in the same pass as the artwork, and shoppers scan it to confirm the product is genuine.
What is the PQ201 unclonable NFC tag?
The PQ201 is Kyudo's own unclonable NFC tag. Every tap proves the product is genuine, and it won the 2024 NFC Forum Innovation Award. Unclonable NFC
Should I choose TruePixel or NFC?
TruePixel is printed with the artwork, so shoppers check it with a scan. The PQ201 is a tag added to the pack, so shoppers check it with a tap. Both prove a product is genuine and both are part of Trace. Our team can help you pick the right one for your product.
How does diversion and grey-market tracking work?
Every unit has its own code, so each scan shows where that unit is. If a unit turns up outside its market, you get an alert.
Does Kyudo work with Amazon Transparency?
Yes. Amazon Transparency is integrated with Kyudo and comes with Trace. It protects you against parallel sales before dispatch, and TruePixel lets shoppers check the product after purchase, all from the same pack. Brand protection
Is Kyudo brand protection used by real brands?
Yes. For DOJA Exclusive, TruePixel authentication detected more than 6,000 unauthorised scans around the world. Case studies
Customer engagement and data
What can shoppers do when they scan the pack?
Whatever you set up: read the product story, claim an offer, play a scratch-and-win, reorder, follow a recipe or how-to guide, or answer a survey. Customer engagement
Who owns the customer data?
You do. Every opt-in and response is first-party data for your brand.
What data and analytics do I get?
You see every scan and response in real time: who scanned, where, how often and what they did next, plus form responses, redemptions and conversions.
Can I show different content by location or time?
Yes. You can control what people see by time of day, location or number of scans, and change it in real time.
Can I change a campaign after the pack is printed?
Yes. The code stays the same, and you can switch campaigns at any time without reprinting.
The Kyudo platform
Do I need a developer to build an experience?
No. Kyudo's drag-and-drop builder needs no code. Start from a template in the Experience Store, such as a product page, authentication, compliance or a promotion, and add, remove or reorder blocks like surveys, videos, guides and offers. The Platform
Does Kyudo support multiple languages?
Yes. AI-powered automatic translation adapts each experience to the shopper's region or device language, and you can review, edit or override any translation.
Can AI build an experience for me?
Yes. With the AI Experience Generator (in beta), you select a style and an objective, and Kyudo generates a complete on-brand experience, with layout, content, logic and flow. You review it, tweak it and launch.
Printing and partners
How does the code get onto the pack?
You place the code on your artwork and it is printed with the pack, like any barcode. Kyudo is integrated with HP SmartStream, so codes and tags can be added during printing.
I am a print service provider. How can I offer Kyudo?
Join the Kyudo Partner Portal. You install the Kyudo plugin, follow the guides to print your first connected job, and offer security, compliance and engagement to the brands you print for. Partners earn a revenue share and manage every brand from one partner account. Partner Portal
